American Craft Beer Week®:
American Craft Beer Week® 2013 Toasts the Red, White and Brew
Celebrations Expected in All 50 States from May 13-19
Boulder, CO • April 25, 2013—From May 13-19, craft beer connoisseurs and beginners alike will come together for the eighth annual celebration of American Craft Beer Week (ACBW). With the tagline “Big Week, Small Breweries,” ACBW is an opportunity to toast the more than 2,400 small and independent American craft brewers who continue to make the U.S. the world’s most diverse brewing destination. Once again, ACBW celebrations are expected to be held across all 50 states.
“The popularity of American Craft Beer Week is indicative of the craft beer renaissance that continues to captivate the U.S.,” said Julia Herz, publisher of CraftBeer.com and craft beer program director at the Brewers Association. “This week is about uniting for a common cause: support and celebration of our nation’s small and independent brewers and the millions of beer lovers who have helped evolve an industry and put the U.S. on the brewing map.”
New for 2013 is the American Craft Beer Week National Toast. For the first time ever, ACBW will be commemorated by a simultaneous toast. At 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on Thursday, May 16, small brewers and craft beer lovers nationwide will raise a glass of their favorite craft brewed beer to toast ACBW and the delicious beer that it celebrates. To find a toast location near you, visit the official American Craft Beer Week events page, hosted by CraftBeer.com.
Untappd, the mobile-based social network that connects breweries with craft beer lovers, is also offering an American Craft Beer Week Badge for users who check-in during ACBW events.
Additionally, craft beer fans from across the country can sign the American Craft Beer Week Manifesto, pledging their support to craft beer and their love for “the artisans who approach their craft with originality, dedication and passion.” From tap takeovers and tasting tours to food pairings and festivals, ACBW will be celebrated in many ways across the U.S. To find a local celebration, event or promotion, visit the above-mentioned ACBW events page. Full Sail Brewing Releases New Brewer’s Share Experimental Beer:Bello-Torres y Amigos Lager for American Craft Beer Week
Full Sail Brewing Invites you to Meet the Brewers and the Beer
Hood River, Oregon – To celebrate American Craft Beer Week (May 13-19th), Full Sail Brewing will release a new beer in their Brewer’s Share Experimental line up: “Bello-Torres y Amigos Lager” crafted by Maintenance Supervisor Eduardo Bello and Bottling Technician Leo Torres. Eduardo and Leo were inspired by the beers of their native country, Mexico and the fond memories of sharing cervezas with friends and family on hot summer afternoons. Both Eduardo and Leo have been valued members of the Full Sail crew for over 20 years and have since developed a passion for great beer and a deep respect for the art and science of brewing. “We are excited to have the opportunity to share our beer with you and invite you to fill your glasses and raise them with your own friends and family. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed brewing it. Cheers to good times with family and friends. Salud!”
This crisp, light bodied lager was brewed with 2 row pale malt and a touch of corn. NW Glacier and Sterling hops were used throughout to provide a subtle hop character. This is the perfect brew for the warm days of summer. ABV 5.0% IBU 21.5
Full Sail has scheduled a “Meet the Brewers and the Beer” event at their Tasting Room and Pub in Hood River, on Thursday, May 16th from 5:00 to 6:30PM. Join the Full Sail Crew to celebrate and toast a pint of this new brew. With each Brewer’s Share series beer, Full Sail picks a local charity to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the beer. Eduardo and Leo have chosen to support the Mid Columbia Community Action Council. Their mission is to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty in Wasco, Hood River and Sherman Counties. Every keg of Eduardo and Leo’s crisp lager benefits this organization.
The Brewer’s Share series is a line-up of small batch draft beers where each Full Sailor takes a turn hand-crafting their own single batch recipe and a portion of the proceeds benefit a local charity of their choosing. Full Sail’s Brewer’s Share Experimental beers will only be available on tap at Full Sail’s Tasting Room and Pub in Hood River, Oregon, and at Full Sail’s Brewery at Riverplace, in Portland, Oregon. Growlers to go are available. The next Brewer’s Share Experimental will be crafted by brewer Francisco Martinez and is expected in July.

About ALS
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, Lou Gehrig ‘s disease) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that leads to paralysis, due to the death of motor neurons in the spinal cord and brain. There is no known cure for the disease. About 5,000 people in the US are diagnosed with ALS each year; the incidence is similar to multiple sclerosis. However, with no effective treatment, the average patient survives only two to five years following diagnosis. There are about 30,000 people in the US diagnosed with ALS today. The worldwide population of ALS patients is estimated at 450,000.
About ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI)
The mission of the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) is to develop effective therapeutics that slow or stop amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, Lou Gehrig ‘s disease) as soon as possible for patients today. Focused on meeting this urgent unmet medical need, ALS TDI executes a robust target discovery program, while simultaneously operating the world’s largest efforts to preclinically validate potential therapeutics; including a pipeline of dozens of small molecules, protein biologics, gene therapies and cell-based constructs. The world’s first nonprofit biotech institute, ALS TDI has developed an industrial-scale platform, employs 30 professional scientists and evaluates dozens of potential therapeutics each year. Built by and for patients, the Cambridge, Massachusetts based research institute collaborates with leaders in both academia and industry to accelerate ALS therapeutic development, including Biogen Idec, UCB, the Gladstone Institutes, MDA and RGK Foundation. 2013 International Brewing Awards
2013 International Brewing Awards:
Nine beers and one cider were today named as overall Champions of The International Brewing Awards 2013, at a presentation in London’s Guildhall that marked the end of this year’s competition.
More than 400 people attended today’s celebration, among them many of the brewers and cider makers from all over the world who had entered the bi-annual competition. Chair of judges Bill Taylor presented not only the trophies to the Championship winners, but also Bronze, Silver and Gold medals to 96 winners across the 10 beer and cider categories.
Taylor said, “The International Brewing Awards are about recognising excellence in brewing and cider making and it gives us great pleasure to present this year’s Champions with their trophy.
“Close to 1,000 beers and ciders were sent into the competition in Burton-upon-Trent earlier this year, so to be selected as one of just 10 Champions is a great accolade and one that today’s winners will surely be able to use to advantage in raising the profile of their beers and ciders.”
The list of medal winners reflected the international reach of the competition, with recognition for brewers and cider makers from 25 countries, including South Korea, Greece, Cambodia and Lithuania alongside more established brewing nations such as the USA, UK and Belgium.
Equally diverse was the range of styles present in the beers taking honours today, thanks to the broad structure of the competition, which encourages brewers to innovate and interpret styles in their own way.
Ruth Evans, director of competition organisers Brewing Technology Services, said, “We are delighted with the response to The International Brewing Awards 2013. The competition attracted more entries than in 2011, from 50 countries and from a broad spectrum of producers from regional micro-brewers to multi-national companies. This diversity is important to our Awards and is key to their appeal to the international brewing community.
She added, “We evolved the Awards this year, by reintroducing a cider category.. We will be building on this, as well as reviewing our existing beer categories, for the 2015 Awards.”
The International Brewing Awards 2015 will be held in Burton-upon-Trent in February 2015. Entries will open on 1st August 2014.
